The energy company ČEZ will increase the price of electricity from the New Year. At the most common rates, customers pay an average of about a third on the invoice. The increase does not apply to customers who have a contractually fixed price. The reason for the increase is the rise in the wholesale price of electricity.
However, the price per megawatt-hour consumed, for example, doubles at the most common D02 rate. While so far people have paid 1,700 crowns without VAT for a megawatt hour, now it will be 3,120 crowns.
The overall price on the invoice is helped by the fact that the regulated fees remain the same at the moment. Their amount will be announced by the Energy Regulatory Office for November next year, but analysts do not expect any significant increase.
“For the most common rates for households that cook and light up electricity, a change in price lists will mean higher payments by an average of CZK 250 per month,” Gazdík said. Clients with active fixation will pay the same prices as before, ČEZ has secured electricity for them and will comply with the conditions of fixation.
“The wholesale price of the electricity we buy for our customers has tripled in the last year, as the price of the commodities we need to produce electricity has climbed to extreme levels: coal gas, allowances. We see that many suppliers are persistent and ending. We regret that CEZ will also increase its prices, but we tried to do it as sensitively as possible and we do not reflect a full increase in the current high prices on the stock exchanges in the price list changes, “said Gazdík.
Last year, ČEZ, as the only supplier, reduced the price lists for an indefinite period for all products. “Although wholesale electricity prices are rising at a record high and far exceeded historical highs, we leave price lists indefinitely unchanged until the end of the year. The energy market is going through a period that no one remembers. The price of electricity has tripled in the last year,” Gazdík said. According to him, the situation on the energy market is unprecedented.
CEZ will also increase the price of gas from January. In mid-October, CEZ CEO Daniel Beneš estimated its price growth by half to two thirds. CEZ did not provide more detailed information on the growth of gas prices today.
In addition to the impact on consumers, the situation has also caused problems for some suppliers. In mid-October, Bohemia Energy announced its termination with approximately 900,000 customers, Kolibřík energie with 28,000 clients and A-PLUS Energie obchodní with 150 outlets.
