ČEZ will reduce the fixed price lists of electricity and gas from Monday, the prices in them will gradually decrease every year, just like last year. “We are sticking to our strategy of projecting the drop in wholesale energy prices into the price lists for our customers this year as well, and we are coming with another big discount. For customers on fixed products, we will reduce the price of electricity and gas by an average of 12 percent,” said CEO of ČEZ Prodej Tomáš Kadlec.
Electricity at the most common rate D02d will be cheaper by an average of about 480 crowns per megawatt hour during a three-year fixation, with a three-year fixation the first year will be CZK 3,590 per MWh, the second year will be CZK 300 cheaper and the third year will be CZK 2,890 per MWh. For gas, the average drop will be CZK 220 per MWh.
Innogy is also responding to the current market trend. “For gas, for example, we revise the price lists on a monthly basis, and since February we have reduced gas prices for new and existing customers in the order of one hundred crowns per MWh. In addition, we are currently preparing a new campaign for the next few days, in which we will present attractive news for customers who switch their gas or electricity supply to innogy,” said spokesperson Pavel Grochál. He did not want to comment on the details now.
An energy supplier received a record fine for unfair practices
Pražská energetika (PRE) does not yet plan to adjust its price lists in the foreseeable future. “We have been reducing the price of products for most of our customers since September of last year, and we entered the new year with these prices,” said spokesman Karel Hanzelka.
He pointed out that despite the relatively optimistic price development on the stock exchange, it is still too early to predict when and to what extent the drop in wholesale prices will be reflected in final prices for customers. “It is necessary to realize that suppliers buy commodities gradually and with an advance that can be one year or more. Thus, the wholesale prices are reflected in the final prices for customers with a delay. Current prices correspond to 2023 wholesale prices,” he said.
E.ON spokesman Roman Šperňák also said that large suppliers have mostly purchased electricity for their customers in advance this year. According to him, the current prices for customers depend mainly on the prices at which suppliers purchased previously. “It is also important to realize that the importance of daily balancing in electricity is increasing,” he emphasized. According to Šperňák, the current drop in energy prices on the market is a particularly positive outlook for the future.
“It can be assumed that this year the prices will be rather stable and at least they should not rise, but it is probably not entirely possible to expect significant decreases. It will then be interesting to see how prices will develop for the coming winter and 2025, where the trend of falling prices could be more pronounced,” he added.
The price of the annual gas contract on the Dutch exchange, which determines the price development for end customers, fell by 11 percent in January this year. The price of electricity on the Leipzig exchange for delivery next year fell by 12 percent.
