“Even a beloved program like Melodifestivalen adapts well to change. With this year’s adjustments, we want to increase engagement around competing contributions,” says Anders Wistbacka, the program’s project manager, in a press release.
Next year, compete There are 30 entries left and the structure of five sub-competitions and a final qualifier. But what is new is that only one entry from each sub-competition advances to the final qualifier, where only five entries will compete. In the qualifiers, the entry that received the most votes in its sub-competition continues, while the public can vote for the other four.
Next year, all songs from each competition will also be released in advance, on the Friday before their respective competition. In the past, the two finalists of the respective sub-competition were only allowed to be published and listened to after the broadcast of the last sub-competition, one week before the final. From now on, the songs can thus be broadcast for free on the radio and published in advance on streaming services.
