Česká zbrojovka changed its name to Colt CZ

CZG – Česká zbrojovka Group changed its name to Colt CZ Group SE (Colt CZ). She bought an American weapons manufacturer last year.

“This change is related to the acquisition of Colt last year and the integration process. By changing the name we highlight both of our key brandswe increase awareness of the new, expanded group and underline our long-term relationship and commitment to both key brands, “said Jan Drahota, Chairman of the Board of Colt CZ.

Zbrojovka completed the purchase of Colt last May. The previously published terms and conditions show that CZG acquired a 100% stake in Colt for $ 220 million (CZK 4.7 billion) in cash and for 1,098,620 newly issued ordinary shares in CZG.

Natland analyst Petr Bartoň considers the renaming of the company to be a relatively standard continuation of the brand’s development after last year’s merger with Colt. “Česká zbrojovka has thus confirmed its international face, and in connection with this, it is the etiquette of the time that either abbreviations in the original language or more resonant words are used in international branding,” said Bartoň.

Jan Drahota from Česká zbrojovka: Last year’s profits were record-breaking. We will rename ourselves Colt CZ

Among other things, the acquisition of the legendary American company Colt is behind the good results. The whole company will now bear the famous name. Its management will propose a dividend of 25 crowns per share. The economic results encouraged investors. Zbrojovka’s securities on the Prague Stock Exchange ended Thursday’s session by more than three percent to 612 crowns per share.

In the case of Colt CZ Group SE, according to him, both factors may be mixed. “Česká zbrojovka is unpronounceable in English, its abbreviation CZ is indistinguishable from the country’s brand, and the Colt brand is so internationally famous that it would be a shame not to use it,” added Bartoň. According to him, the connection between Czech and Anglo-Saxon armaments has a long tradition. “One of the most famous rifles of World War II, BREN, was created by combining the names of the mother armories in Brno and Enfield in north London,” he added.

Colt CZ Group SE, together with its subsidiaries, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of small arms for the armed forces, personal defense, hunting, sport shooting and other commercial uses. The Colt CZ group includes Colt’s Manufacturing Company, Česká zbrojovka, Colt Canada Corporation, CZ-USA, 4M Systems and CZ Export Praha. Colt CZ also holds a minority stake in Spuhr i Dalby, a Swedish manufacturer of optical mounting solutions for weapons.

One of the world’s largest ammunition manufacturers, Sellier & Bellot, increased sales and profits last year. This was helped by, among other things, the US election and the debate on reducing arms holdings in the US or winning three major contracts. Revenues rose by 2.1 percent to 4.4 billion crowns, net profit by 6.9 percent to 895.2 million crowns. Despite the production outage and limited sales opportunities due to the covid-19 pandemic, production and sales results are the highest in history, the company said in its annual report.
