An interesting concert is expected in the Cēsis Concert Hall on January 30, where one of the founders of hip-hop in Latvia, Ozols, will meet the Latvian Radio Big Band on one stage, playing songs from the rapper’s solo albums in new arrangements.
The concert in Cēsis will feature popular songs from various rapper Ozola albums released since the early 2000s, when he began his career as a soloist. “I hope that we will be able to transfer special energy and emotions to the audience at the concert. The local hip-hop meets the Latvian Radio big band… And you still say that miracles don’t happen ?! ” its Oak. His songs will be performed in new sounds by the pianist and composer Ritvars Garoza.
Kārlis Vanags, the artistic director of the Latvian Radio Big Band, also emphasizes the uniqueness of this collaboration: “It might seem – what do Ozols and the big band have in common ?! But jazz and hip-hop have a lot in common, albeit purely historically – both genres originated in very similar circumstances. The harmonies and rhythms of jazz music are often accompanied by hip-hop songs, and it would be very difficult for me to imagine a modern jazz musician who would not have been influenced by hip-hop. ”
