Former Chelsea player Cesc Fabregas has said Gareth Southgate Blues stars Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will debut in England’s starting XI at Euro 2020.
The former Spain international also believes Southgate should play with two starting midfielders at Euro 2020 to find room for the attacking talents of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Mount.
Fabregas was an expert on BBC coverage of Turkey against Italy on Friday night and believes England’s best chances of success this summer lie in a 4-2-3-1 formation with three Chelsea players – and the former Blues Academy – star Declan Rice – all in from the start.
Fabregas replaces Dean Henderson, James getting the green light at right-back.
John Stones pairs Harry Maguire in mid-defense with Chilwell for Luke Shaw at left-back.
Jordan Henderson will face the starting midfielder alongside Rice, with Foden, Grealish and Mount behind captain Harry Kane.
That means there’s no room for Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling or Jadon Sancho, but it’s programming that has worked well on Twitter.
Fabregas said: “If everyone is 100% fit, I would go for that. There is experience, there is youth, there is a good mix. People who work hard, are passionate.
“Top, dear Harry Kane player. Lots of creativity in the midfield, especially the three number 10. Full-backs who have just won the Champions League and full of confidence. “
England kicks off their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Fabregas has revealed that the arrival of Italy international Jorginho at Stamford Bridge was a major factor in his departure from Chelsea in January 2019.
“One of the main reasons I left Chelsea is because of him,” said Fabregas, a former Arsenal star, who now plays for Monaco.
“He’s a very smart and intelligent player, a very good passer. The only thing I can say about him sometimes is that he drops the ball too fast when he can play forward.
“He’s running the team. At Chelsea, he has N’Golo Kante protecting him all the time, and I know it’s important, I don’t know here how to face a big, big Euro game.
“He’s a very good player and tactically he knows what to do thanks to the coach’s methodology, it helps a lot. “
