César Luis Menotti was admitted this long weekend to the Agote sanatorium in the Federal Capital, due to severe anemia. The former technical director, champion with Argentina in the 78 World Cup, and today Director of National Teams, was given serum and a series of transfusions were performed, after which his health improved.
The 85-year-old former soccer player had had no appetite for several days and had also suffered thrombophlebitis in his leg, for which he was transferred to the medical center, where he was treated. Once he was recovering, he began to ask to return home, something that could happen in the next few hours, if there were no complications.
It is not the first time that Flaco has ended up being admitted with anemia in recent times. In August 2023, for his part, he fell at his house and had to be hospitalized due to hemorrhage as a result of the strong blow.
“It was a scare. Evolves according to expectations. He was logically hospitalized. Let’s hope that he can be discharged in a few days,” they said from those around him on that occasion. Beyond his health challenges, the former offensive midfielder remains active in his role in the Argentine Football Association.
In fact, Flaco was one of the main supporters, along with Claudio Tapia, when it came to confirming Lionel Scaloni in charge of the Senior National Team, which led to conquests in the Copa América 2021, the Finalissima and the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
“I’m happy. When results belong to solid structures and are not just results, it comforts one. Sometimes you win because you win, other times because you work and respect an idea. “It is an important step for our football,” he said a little over a month ago, in an interview with Podemos Pasar on DSports.
He even encouraged himself to compare the current situation of the Albiceleste with the present of Brazil: “You don’t see that identity that was historically seen in the national team. I see a decline in management where business prevails more, the representation of the national team and the participation of the clubs are not defended. “I am ashamed to hear and feel it, especially because I had to live through the most brilliant era in the history of Brazilian football.”
“It seems to me that there is a cultural decline, they are in another world and I cannot understand it. It happens to me that I don’t understand how you can play so badly, without idea and without supporting the entire brilliant history of Brazilian football,” he concluded then, always sharp about his opinions.
