Pinned to your chair for hours and hours every day. It also happens in the office: but then there is a coffee break, you happen to get up to go to the meeting room, you leave to talk to your colleague in the next room. On the other hand, with remote work, at home, one often ends up spending a whole day still in front of the computer, moreover, not just to work: from leisure to shopping, for some months a lot of our life has been spent in front of a screen. With the result that the probability of finding oneself with neck and shoulder pain increases, the so-called neck painUniversity of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, for example, estimates a 20 percent increase in cases this year. Since this is a problem that is anything but rare, the numbers are considerable: in Italy already before the pandemic there were an estimated fifteen million people struggling with neck pain, with an annual incidence of up to 70% of the population and a probability of highest in office workers, who spend most of their time on computers.

Sedentary
The even more pronounced sedentariness in recent months, without some precautions, could therefore make the situation considerably worse and lead even more people to have the classic cervical symptoms, as many improperly call neck pain: neck pain, but also the muscles of the tense and stiff shoulders, discomfort in the entire upper part of the spine, a pain that can then radiate towards the head, shoulders and arms. In most cases, nonspecific neck pain, i.e. there are no precise anatomical, mechanical or other causes to cause it, explains Sabrina Donzelli, physiatrist of Isico (Italian Spine Scientific Institute) in Milan. The reasons, therefore, are above all lphysical inactivity, muscle weakness, wrong postures or even correct postures, but which are maintained for too long: we are not “designed” to stay still and even the most correct position has negative consequences, if continued for hours and hours.
