Cervical Cancer Transmission: Debunking Myths and Facts about Public Toilets

However, there are still many assumptions that state the use public toilet could be a means of dissemination cervical cancer.

So, is it true? transmission of cervical cancer can it happen in a public toilet?

Well, when we met at a health discussion event, a specialist obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr Keven Tali, SpOG, explained this further.

According to Dr. Keven, until now cervical cancer transmission cannot occur through inanimate objects, such as toilet seats.

“It’s a myth that cervical cancer can be transmitted from public toilets,” said Dr. Keven.

“So, don’t worry for women who want to use sitting toilets in public places, but cleanliness must always be maintained because there are many kinds of bacteria,” he explained.

Dr Keven explained that cervical cancer is located in the vagina, approximately 10 cm, so it is difficult for transmission to occur outside of it.

Apart from that, transmission from inanimate objects also cannot occur because virus those that are outside the body will die.

“The point is, you still have to maintain cleanliness. If, for example, a public toilet is dirty, don’t use it,” said Dr Keven.

“Healthier lifestyle changes are also needed to increase immunity, including doing the HPV vaccine and self-examination (screening) regularly,” he added.
