“Cervical Cancer Survivor Opens Up About Intimacy and Trust in Long Live Love Interview”

“In 2020 I got cervical cancer with metastases,” Anita candidly tells Irma. After the diagnosis, she decides to get the most out of life. “I’m now like: Aniet, now it’s done, you’re going to do what you want.” Although she is doing well now, she still suffers from it. “Of course I had that cancer, right there,” she says. “That’s an area I’ve been angry with for a long time. Angry with my box.”

Irma looks at her understandingly: “It wasn’t good.” Anita nods affirmatively. “It has let me down. Since that happened, no one has touched it, so to speak.” Irma seems to understand where Anita wants to go. “So that’s a really tricky thing in terms of intimacy, I guess?”

Anita nods. “I would have to really trust someone before I could allow them to have sex. My future partner, whoever that may be, whether you or someone else, will have to be patient. I think if I I really was in love with someone and I could give my heart to someone, I could allow it.”

Fortunately, Irma understands her completely and that brings tears to Anita. “You can be such a nice person, but if someone can’t handle it, yes, then that’s a no-go, then it stops.” The women close their conversation with a big hug. It later turns out that the subject is indeed not a no-go for Irma: the two decide to extend their stay together.

Long Live Love can be seen every working day at 7 p.m. on SBS6 and can be viewed at Videoland, among other places.
