Červenka celebrated the representative jubilee with two goals. ‘Professional through and through,’ praises Captain Gudas | iRADIO

The Czech hockey players are at the home world championship after two duels with five points at the head of the incomplete table of their group, and they also owe it to the captain. Roman Červenka, after a successful raid against Finland, not even in 24 hours with two goals contributed significantly to the turnaround with Norway to 6:3 in the jubilee 200th match in the national team. After that, he was announced as the player of the match in a sold-out hall in Prague.

“The second game in the national team, he certainly did a lot to handle them and helped the team a lot. I think he’s a leader,” says coach Radim Rulík after the 6-3 win over Norway about the 38-year-old captain, who became only the third Czech hockey player in history to play his 200th game in the national team jersey.

“I’m not going to lie, when they said it on the microphone before the game, it was nice. But on the other hand, I didn’t focus on it any more than on any other match. There will be time to take a look back at some point,” Roman Červenka, world champion from 2010 and owner of two bronze medals, remains fully focused on the world championship in Prague and Ostrava.

“Just the fact that he reached this goal says it all, he’s a professional through and through. It’s why he’s our captain, why he’s our leader. He showed it again, yesterday a beautiful raid, today he started us with the first two goals. You can see why the coaches trust him and the whole cabin steps under him,” continues his assistant fullback Radko Gudas.

“He is a huge inspiration. I can only say one thing, he is a real dude. I’m glad that I can even be in the cabin with him here, it’s a great honor,” adds defender Libor Hájek.

The euphoria was great, says Maciaś after the opening match of the Poles. He hopes the fan support will endure

Although Červenka never really broke through in the NHL, thanks to that he is playing at the World Cup for the eleventh time and was also at four Olympic Games, among other things. Only two hockey players have done more in the national team than the extra league champion with Slavia. Defender Petr Čáslav played 201 games and record holder David Výborný 219.

“He has a calmness on the stick, which some of the younger guys don’t have, and a calmness on the power play as well. He already has experience, that’s how it should be. If he continues to play, he will exceed that and surpass it by more games. If he rode through that season, he will surpass it next season,” the five-time world champion and also captain Výborný believes that Roman Červenka will improve his national team record in the number of matches.
