Mexico City. Alicia Licha Cervantes strives for a memorable mark by now reaching the record as the all-time top scorer in the Liga Mx Femenil. The striker reached 152 points after scoring a double in Chivas’ 6-0 victory against Santos, with which the red and white confirmed their place in the league.
With the victory, Guadalajara remained in sixth place with 30 points, while the Guerreras finished the tournament in third-to-last place with just eight points.
Cervantes has competed for a couple of tournaments with Katty Martínez, Monterrey forward, for the label of all-time top scorer. Both arrived tied with 150 points on the last day of the regular phase of the Apertura 2024 tournament. However, the red and white barely touched the ball and was confirmed as the best net-breaker, at least momentarily.
With a header after a corner kick, Licha Cervantes (45+4) beat the Santos goalkeeper to give Chivas the advantage and surpass Martínez with 151 points. The episode was controversial, as the forward was reprimanded for lifting her shirt to show a message of support during the celebration.
But not even one infraction intimidated Cervantes (90), as near the end he added another goal with a shot inside the area to reach 152 goals in his professional career.
As an extra, he also equaled Omar Bravo’s mark for Chivas’ highest score in league games with 132 goals.
Adriana Iturbide was also the protagonist in the duel against the Guerreras by scoring a hat trick (56, 82, 90+4, while the Santos defense María Peraza (70) completed the scoring in favor of Guadalajara by sending the ball into her own goal.
Tigres completes victory against Pachuca
Tigres complied by beating Pachuca 2-1 on the last day of the regular phase to remain in the race for the lead pending the result between Monterrey and Tijuana. The Amazons have 41 points, while the Gophers are in the fourth place with 37 points.
Jacqueline Ovalle (57), with a cross shot, and Natalia Colin (65), with a shot inside the area, gave the felines the victory at the El Volcán stadium, while Chinwendu Ihezuo (90+6) scored by the Hidalgo people.
