Cervantes Institute and Apple Music Launch Project to Find Best Spanish Song Lyrics in History

he is Cervantes Institute y Apple Music has launched a project, with the help of twelve relevant artists, to find the best Spanish song lyrics in history, to coincide with the United Nations Day of the Spanish Language, which will be celebrated on April 23 .

Andrés Calamaro, Bunbury, Diego Vasallo, El Chojin, José Ignacio Lapido, La Bien Querida, Najwa, Niño de Elche, Pablo López, Rozalén, Russian Red and Zahara have been responsible for choosing their favorite words in Spanish on Apple Music, in a series of ‘playlists’ – considered by the artists themselves – which users will have access to from this Tuesday.

Each listing includes detailed comments for each songapart from there were fragments of the words and the author’s name. In addition, the lyrics of most of the songs that make up this tribute are synchronized so that the user can follow or sing them within Apple Music.

The Cervantes Institute joins this celebration by also establishing its image as a curator on Apple Music with four music albums: ‘The word in music’, ‘Learn Spanish with music’, a special list of songs chosen by the Spanish composer Luis Mateo Díez, finally. Winner of the Cervantes Prize, and ‘What sounds at the Cervantes Institute’, with themes by artists who have participated in the different activities of their institutions around the world.

“With this collaboration we started with Apple Music we want identify the cultural heritage that songs in Spanish represent; a cultural heritage that shows the richness of our language and the talent of creation through all kinds of genres: from those that are heard a lot today to those that still resonate in our memory and tradition. At Cervantes we learned years ago that the so-called high culture is just as important as popular culture to spread the language, an example of this is the musical scene that transcends the borders of our language around the world,” said Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute.

“Instituto Cervantes collaborates with Apple Music so that, through the playlists we share, we are not only aware of the value of words in music but also what words can do that music. contribute to the learning of Spanish for our students around the world” added Montero at an event held in Madrid, in which Rozalen and El Chojin also participated.
