Certified Wood Products Demand Surges Worldwide: Bitus Latvia Leading the Way

The demand for certified wood products is increasing worldwide, as it provides independent proof of the legal origin of resources, as well as sustainable and responsible management.

Almost 100% of the wood used in production is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council/ Forest Stewardship Councils) or PEFC (PanEuropean Forest Certification — European forest certification). PEFC is a more modern and newer standard for sustainable forest management that takes into account the latest ESG (environmental, social and governance) aspects and contributes to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

“The existence of certificates is also a guarantee for green-minded and responsible consumers, who must make sure that the purchased wood products are produced in an environmentally friendly, socially just and economically beneficial way,” explains Dzelme. “Otherwise, by purchasing a non-certified product, the consumer has inadvertently contributed to deforestation, illegal treatment of workers, or forest depletion.”
