For their election program, the CDU / CSU have reached into the magic box. On the one hand, they want, which is certainly laudable, to reduce the tax burden on low and middle earners (which, however, is also being sought by the other parties). On the other hand, it is essential to keep the black zero and avoid any new borrowing – even though 100 billion additional loans will have to be taken out for 2022 alone to cope with the consequences of the corona. At the same time, the Union categorically rejects the higher taxation of wealth and inheritance as a possible source of income. Every elementary school student can figure out that this equation will never work out.
All of this is justified with the argument that the top performers in society must not be punished. But what kind of perverted concept of performance is it when you want to conserve assets that are not obtained through your own work but through speculation in stocks, real estate or inheritance? No, that has just as little to do with the actual liberal performance concept as it does with the system of the social market economy. Alchemy instead of politics! So that seems to be the Union’s motto for this election campaign. In truth, she is just too cowardly to tell voters openly that coping with the corona epidemic will require certain sacrifices, especially from the wealthier. Robert Neisen, Freiburg
