Cermi Mujeres addresses how to combat the educational exclusion of women and girls with disabilities | Leader in Social Information

This has happened during the V discussion ‘The Right to Education of Women and Girls with Disabilities’, organized by the Cermi Women Foundation (FCM) in collaboration with the agency Servimedia, within the framework of the International Day of Education, which celebrate tomorrow Sunday.

The meeting, moderated by the general director of Servimedia, José Manuel González Huesa, was attended by the technical advisor of the General Directorate of Evaluation and Territorial Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Professional Training, Juana Hernández; the Director of Communication, Incidence and Research of Plan Internacional España, Julia López; the president of Cermi Navarra and representative of Cermi in the State School Council, Mª Luz Sanz; the sociologist and academic expert on the education of women, Marina Subirats, and Sofía Mediavilla (Autismo Spain) and Blanca San Segundo (DOWN Spain), patrons of the FCM.

The meeting analyzed educational inclusion in a context in which, they highlighted, “in addition, women and girls with disabilities already suffer discriminatory situations in their access to education, facing multiple barriers due to gender and disability.” During the talk, their “scarce” presence in ordinary schools, the bias that exists in professional academic orientation due to gender and the little demand for women in the Vocational Training cycles and in Science and Technology studies was highlighted. or how women and girls with disabilities suffer more violence and bullying at school, and have, in turn, greater family overprotection.

Along these lines, all the participants agreed that, in order to move towards a real and effective inclusive education, it is necessary to improve the detection processes in the educational field to ensure the access of people with disabilities to resources and support; teacher and family training; awareness of their situation; increase the educational level or move towards an inclusive academic and professional orientation.

They also highlighted the importance of educating in the prevention of harassment and gender violence, and listening to the voice of women and girls with disabilities to promote their self-determination.
