For the second year in a row, Cergy-Pontoise will face Grenoble in the semi-finals of the Magnus League, the first division of French ice hockey. The two clubs qualified on Wednesday evening after pocketing a fourth victory each against Gap and Mulhouse to win four sets to one in this first round of the play-offs.
In his “little cauldron” of Aren’Ice, the Jokers of Cergy-Pontoise won against the Raptors of Gap (5-4 ap) in this fifth match. A victory gained in overtime after three balanced first periods (2-2, 0-0, 2-2, 1-0). And they therefore meet their supporters for a new semi-final, the second in a row against Grenoble.
At almost the same time this Wednesday evening, the Brûleurs de Loups had a lot of trouble overcoming the Scorpions of Mulhouse, also after extra time (5-4 ap) after being led by two goals in their den of Polesud . But, like Cergy, Grenoble won its confrontation four sets to one. Jokers and Brûleurs de Loups will now meet on Tuesday March 21 and Wednesday March 22 for two first matches in Grenoble before two matches in Cergy, on March 25 and 26.
Last season, the Grenoble residents eliminated the Cergyssois (4-1) at the same stage of the competition before being crowned champions. In the other Magnus League semi-final, Rouen and Angers will start their clash on the same dates, in Normandy first.
