The commitment to promoting diversity in sport and promoting integration regardless of factors such as origin, gender or functional capacity, has been the priority objective of the collaboration actions carried out last July between Fundación Cepsa and the Santa Cruz Basketball Club through the Summer School, held at the Tomé Cano CEIP in the capital of Tenerife.
The head of Fundación Cepsa in the Canary Islands, Belén Machado, highlights that this year the emphasis has been on implementing values in the young participants in the Summer School, through a program of talks complementary to the traditional activities of this summer meeting. “In addition to doing sports, enjoying, playing, learning and living together, they have absorbed the stories and experiences narrated by various athletes, with the intention of promoting respect, tolerance, solidarity and empathy in minors,” he says.
For his part, the manager of the Santa Cruz Basketball Club, Alberto Déniz, maintains that “at the request of Fundación Cepsa we have implemented a social program this year, which has led us to broaden our horizons by instilling in the lower values related to diversity and inclusion ”. He considers that the collaboration of Fundación Cepsa has been essential to “instill diversity and inclusion in young people and, in this way, sensitize them and raise awareness about this type of issue that is so necessary to address”.
Along these lines, various talks on diversity and inclusion in the field of sport have been added to the practice of sports, group activities, competitions and free-time workshops.
