CEO: wise men in favor of the survival of their party – AGP

Libreville, November 8, 2023 (AGP) The wise men of the former political formation in power, the Gabonese Democratic Party, gathered within the Consultative Council of Wise Men (CCS), expressed, this Wednesday, during a meeting with the Executive Secretariat, their desire not to see their party disappear from the national political scene, a source close to the said party told the AGP.

During this meeting, it was a question of addressing the future of this party after its fall on August 30 as well as its contribution to the transition process. The agenda contained two points including the assessment of the interim provided by the Deputy Secretary General 2, Luc Oyoubi, and miscellaneous.

The miscellaneous update was the framework in which the future of the former ruling party was discussed.

“There was talk at this level of discussing the future of the party with the wise people. From these exchanges, they indicated that they are for its survival and its maintenance on the national political scene. The wise believe that the party must not die and that there is reason to reflect on what needs to be done for it to survive. The Council of Elders therefore decided to reflect on the question. Just like the Wise, all other bodies will have to do the same,” she continued.

After the Consultative Council of Elders, this series of consultation meetings on the future of the party will continue with members of the political bureau and other bodies. Once the meetings are over, an operating framework will be established for the implementation of the survival process of this party.

The first point was an opportunity for the interim to take stock on behalf of the entire Executive Secretariat, to the party elders gathered within the Advisory Council of Elders. Luc Oyoubi took stock of what was done during the interim period he held from August 30, the date of the liberation, until November 7.

“From this interim, what emerges in particular is the declaration made last September by the CEO to take note of the coup to liberate the CTRI and to adhere to its vision of restoring the country. As a result, the Deputy Secretary General 2 set up commissions to reflect on several themes focused on the new constitution, the new electoral code, health, employment, finances, training, education, etc. The fruit of these reflections will constitute the CEO contribution to the national debate,” indicated the source.

The same source noted that this meeting was not intended to discuss the change in the CEO hierarchy. Adding that this question is not current.
