The Cusco influencer was on the program News Expansionof RPPwhere he told how his skill has captured global attention, boosting the visibility of Peruvian art in the digital sphere.
The Peruvian Paola Gallegoswith more than 9 million followers on TikTok, met the CEO of this social network, Shou Zi Chew, where he highlighted his work on the social network. The young Tourism graduate has dedicated herself fully to this platform, showing her skills in calligraphy, “the art of writing beautifully.”
In addition, he revealed exclusively for the program News Expansionof RPPwho participated in a private dinner with the businessman: “It was an internal TikTok meeting and he showed up, I was shaking, I introduced myself and he said: ‘I know you. I know you have studied Tourism,’” he recalled. “I showed him some Peruvian food,” he added.
On the other hand, Paola Gallegosa native of Cusco, said that her love for letters led her to take a different path to her career.
“What I always say is that I was not looking to be an influencer but to look for therapy for myself. In 2018 I already had an approach to calligraphy and I arrived at a calligraphy school where I began to train. Tourism did not take me 100% so that’s when I said where I put a pause on my career and see where I was going to get to calligraphy. I started with traditional styles and there I found my passion,” he mentioned.
He also shared some advice that he gave him Shou Zi Chew to continue growing and creating a community on TikTok. “First he told us that we must make a ‘Millennial Pause’, that is, impact in the first second of the video in order to hook future followers.”
Who is Shou Zi Chew?
Shou Zi Chew is the CEO of TikTok, where he is responsible for leading the overall business and bringing the company’s vision to life. He has been a member of the TikTok family since its inception, first having led a team of early ByteDance investors.
The executive is originally from Singapore. He has a degree in Economics from University College London (UCL) and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He began his career in technology companies as an intern at Facebook when the social network was just a startup, according to his Harvard alumni profile.
He later served as CEO, International President and Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Corp and as a Partner of DST Global.
In 2021, he became the CEO of TikTok, facing one of his biggest professional challenges: generating trust in TikTok as a safe application. The challenge is not over yet because today the Chinese company that created TikTok (ByteDance) is fighting in the United States Supreme Court against a ban order on the app, where it has 170 million users.
In his personal life, in addition to enjoying video games like Clash of Clans and Diablo IV, Chew shares videos from his @shou.time profile on TikTok with the “behind the scenes” of their appearances at events promoted by the social network, as well as together with influencers from the digital platform.
His most recent publication was made in early November at an event to bring companies closer to TikTok in Dubai. To date, Shou Zi Chew has 3.8 million followers on TikTok.

What do you consider the most significant impact TikTok has had on content creation and influencer culture?
As a professional website editor for world-today-news.com, I would like to ask our first guest, Paola Gallegos, about her journey as a Peruvian influencer on TikTok and her experiences meeting with the CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew.
Q: How did you get into calligraphy, and what inspired you to showcase your skills on TikTok?
Paola: I’ve always had a love for letters. In 2018, I started exploring traditional calligraphy styles, and it soon became my passion. When I discovered TikTok, I saw it as an opportunity to share this beautiful art form with others. I never intended to become an influencer, but the platform gave me a way to express myself creatively and connect with people around the world who share my interest in calligraphy.
Q: Can you tell us about the private dinner you shared with Shou Zi Chew at TikTok, and what advice he gave you for continuing to grow on the platform?
Paola: The dinner was an incredible experience! Shou Zi Chew was very approachable and interested in hearing about our experiences as creators. He encouraged us to make a “Millennial Pause” in our videos – to grab viewers’ attention right away and keep them engaged throughout. This advice has really helped me refine my content strategy and create more impactful videos.
