The CEO of the Serie A League commented on the ruling of the Lazio regional administrative court: “We must eliminate a plague that has caused and continues to cause over 300 million euros of damage per year to Italian football”. Satisfaction also on the part of Dazn, at the forefront of the “battle”
The fight against piracy had an important day today with the ruling in favor of Agcom by the TAR of Lazio. The Regional Administrative Court has in fact rejected the appeal presented by Assoprovider against the new rules imposed by the Communications Authority to combat the illicit broadcast of football matches by pirate sites. After the green light to the anti-piracy law last summer and the postponements of the past few weeks, the Piracy Shield platform can now really go into action. Good news for the Lega Serie A and for those who have purchased the TV rights to our football. “The sentence of the fourth section of the TAR of Lazio – said the CEO of the League, Luigi De Siervo – recognizes Agcom’s authority and power to deactivate illegal signals in 30 minutes, but above all it demolishes the appeal of Assoprovider, finally giving the green light to putting piracy to the ground: now it will really be possible to combat the illegal broadcasting of Serie A matches. The court recognized that our donation of the ‘Piracy Shield’ platform to Agcom is perfectly legitimate and that this will act to the benefit of the entire system. Since the sporting event lasts just over 90 minutes, jurisprudence has certified the need to act quickly to stop piracy. A plague which, I will never tire of underlining, has caused and continues to cause over 300 million euros of damage per year to Italian football, to clubs, to television operators and to all workers in the sector. We have also thwarted the latest attempt by the ‘usual crafty people’ to block the entry into action of the anti-piracy platform. We expect that, after months of waiting, the ‘machine to machine’ system will finally come into operation in February, which will allow pirate sites reported by rights holders to be quickly interrupted.”
DAZN SATISFACTION

Even the streaming platform that purchased the rights to broadcast all Serie A matches until 2029 commented on the ruling with satisfaction: “We have reiterated several times – we read in the Dazn note – that the battle against piracy is a battle that we all win or lose together, because it is an increasingly widespread and dangerous criminal phenomenon, which damages the entire Italian national system. The sentence confirms that we are going in this direction and that the condemnation of piracy is unanimous, as it is unanimous was the approval of the law against the illicit diffusion of contents protected by copyright. These are strong, cohesive and unanimous signals that lead us to believe that the battle can and must be won. In this context, whoever continues to delay the full functioning of the law and the platform, would clearly be considered ‘alongside’ pirates and criminals. A round of applause, therefore, for the work of Agcom, the government and the police forces involved on the front line. And to all sports fans who, unlike digital hooligans, choose to support their team by cheering legally every day.”

The president of the Lega Serie B Mauro Balata was also satisfied: “In this way we have the guarantee of certain and rapid times against the piracy that affects our matches, an economic scourge that affects not only football in its institutions and its clubs but also thousands of workers working in the telecommunications sector. Now we must not let our guard down, also thanks to the imminent activation of the ‘Piracy Shield’ platform to intervene directly and quickly against illegal flows and streaming sites”
