The CEO of Dacia spoke in Geneva about the immediate future of the brand, which mainly concerns the most affordable Sandero model. It will also be introduced with an electric drive in the following years.
The successful Dacia Sandero is the brand’s best-selling model and was even the second best-selling new car in Europe last year. The cheapest modern Dacia has been produced in the current generation since 2020, and according to the latest information, Dacia is already working on a future successor. Among other things, it will be based on the most modern technologies of the new Renault 5 E-Tech – for the first time ever, the Sandero will also be presented as an electric car.
Denis Le Vot, CEO of Dacia, spoke at the Geneva Motor Show about the future of the Sander and confirmed what potential buyers are waiting for. “The new generation Dacia Sandero will be presented with an internal combustion engine, but will also have a purely electric version. It will be launched in 2027 or 2028 and will be produced until 2035.” From that year, the European Union will require the sale of new cars only with zero emissions.
The new Dacia Sandero will be a bigger car than before. It will benefit from the development of new electric cars from Renault, such as the new Renault 5 and the small SUV Renault 4, but Dacia’s management has not yet decided on its future in the smallest A-segment after the end of the electric Spring. At the same time, a potential successor could be based on the technology of the new generation Twinga, which Renault is developing as an electric car with a price tag below 20,000 euros.
The head of Dacia also talked about the new Duster and the future bigger Bigster in Geneva. The popular SUV is starting to face competition from new rivals from China, including the MG ZS, and Dacia continues to believe that the Duster will be the clear choice for anyone interested in an affordable robust off-road SUV with all-wheel drive and large approach angles. In Europe, it is a popular choice for forest services and police forces. The larger Bigster will then be rebuilt on the CMF-B extended modular platform and will be more of a touring model than an off-road model.
Last year, Dacia crossed the threshold of 8 million cars sold. It sold 650,000 cars worldwide last year, of which 550,000 units found their customers in Europe, where the brand gained a record market share of 4.3 percent for passenger cars.
