The cold-blooded killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a luxury hotel in New York has sparked shock and questions as police investigate the motive behind this organized and targeted attack.
As a NYP article reveals, the authorities are investigating whether the attacker left a message. Specifically, to write on the bullets he used, according to NYPD sources.
Investigators found words such as “deny” and “defend” written on unused bullets and shell casings found at the crime scene, according to the same sources. Authorities discovered three spent bullets and three spent 9mm shell casings outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue, where the 50-year-old was scheduled to attend an investor conference.
Thompson, 50, was shot four times on Wednesday morning 12/4 (local time) outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The attacker, a masked gunman who used a silencer, is seen on security camera footage waiting for his target and firing accurately at close range. Thompson collapsed on the pavement, while the assailant escaped on an electric bike.
The New York City Police Department has released two new photos of a person wanted for questioning. The person is wearing dark clothing, but their face is not covered in these latest images.
According to CNN, the suspect stayed in a Manhattan hostel room with two other men.

The gunman, who wore a mask and used a silencer, appeared to be an experienced marksman, as captured on surveillance video. Nevertheless, he appears to have made serious mistakes that may help identify him.
Specifically, the suspect stopped at a nearby Starbucks before the murder and threw the coffee cup into a trash can, which police recovered and are now including as part of the investigation.
