CEO Modena “I want to build a vaccine factory for respiratory infectious diseases in Korea”

– Modena, one of the corona vaccine manufacturers, has proposed that it wants to build a vaccine factory for respiratory infectious diseases in Korea. According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups on the 20th, Minister of SMEs Park Young-seon held a videoconference with Stefan Vansel Modena, CEO, at 7:30 this morning (5:30 pm EST on the 19th). This was followed by a video conference between President Moon Jae-in and CEO Stephen Bansel on December 28 last year.

At the meeting that day, CEO Bancell Modena expressed his opinion that he would like to establish a vaccine production plant for respiratory infections jointly with the Korean government. In addition, we discussed ways to jointly invest in vaccine R&D and expressed interest in activating an open innovation platform for Korean startups.

An official from the Ministry of SMEs explained that “Modena suggested building a factory directly, not consignment production in Korea,” and “taking into account Korea’s advanced vaccine production infrastructure.”
