Rosario Central won 1-0 in the Rosario derby and won the second of the year at the Gigante de Arroyito, in a final that presented the game that was lacking for most of the match. After the goal disallowed for Newells and the subsequent red card, Canalla took advantage of the free kick that ended up giving them the three points and climbing the table in the Professional League.

The pitch started out tilted for Central with a deafening crowd that timidly brought them closer to the rival area. The attacks did not last long and the first half was a flat and emotionless atmosphere for both sides: no shots on goal in 45 minutes. Canalla also suffered a heavy loss before halftime, with Marco Ruben injured, who, after a play, fell to the ground and forced the entry of Enzo Copetti.

Another of those who tried and always promises for the home team was Jaminton Campaz, who overflowed down the left, once again, without too many risks.

The second half started with a strong performance from the visiting team, who took control of the ball and made things difficult for Central in the back. The first goal of the match also came. With a good attack and a disorganized defense, the Lepra advanced and got a free kick: almost without any touches from the visiting team, the ball reached the feet of Emanuel Coronel who was forced to deflect it into the middle and the ball ended up with Franco Ibarra, to open the scoring against Sebastián Médez’s team. However, the VAR took the first step and correctly disallowed the goal for offside, an action that the stadium shouted like a goal.

Now, the decline of the Lepra began. The shock of the cancellation led to the despair of Ever Banega’s team and led to their sentence in the match: ten minutes later, Ángelo Martino went with both legs to Kevin Ortiz’s ankle and the referee did not hesitate to give him a direct red card. The expulsion was the starting motor for those led by Matías Lequi who were emboldened by the numerical superiority.

Without a doubt, the change in the winning team was established with the entry of Ignacio Malcorra at 15 minutes of the second half. Added to the Newells’ strike, the Canalla number ten led the home team forward and was the co-author of the goal play. A precise left footed shot that perfectly executed the free kick, complicated the goalkeeper and, after the rebound, Facundo Mallo scored the 1-0 that made the Gigante de Arroyito explode.

In the five additional minutes, Rosario went looking for the second and the difference in power was clear thanks to the overflow and driving of Nacho Malcorra, who assisted Enzo Copetti but the former Racing player could not get his goal behind the rival defense.

With some courage, Newell’s raised hopes with a last-minute draw, but the three points went to the current holder of the paternity of the Rosario derby.
