Solopos.com, SEMARANG — The Central Java Provincial Health Service (Dinkes Jateng) noted that around 3.9 million children in its area will undergo Sub Pin or polio immunization simultaneously on January 15 2024. Of that number of children, most came from the districts of Cilacap, Banyumas, Brebes and Semarang City.
Simultaneous polio immunization was carried out following the discovery of positive polio cases in Manisrenggo District, Klaten Regency. Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Central Java Health Office, Irma Makiah, said that before undergoing immunization, children must first undergo a surveillance examination.
In the future, there will be 3.9 million children spread across 35 districts/cities who will be vaccinated against polio simultaneously. “Children aged 0 to 7 years will be sub pinned. “And on January 15, round 1 starts. Then it will continue on February 19,” he said Solopos.comMonday (8/1/2024) evening.
Regarding the type of vaccine, the Central Java Health Office will use nOPV2 or Novel Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine. The immunization will be given orally.
Sub-coordinator of Immunization Surveillance at the Central Java Health Office, Atin Suhesti, explained that the first round of polio sub-coordination would be carried out for a full week. Then the second stage will also be carried out for a full week starting February 19.
“But the vaccine hasn’t arrived yet. Process sent here [Jawa Tengah]. Later we will do this [sub pin polio] “not alone, but in collaboration with WHO and Unicef,” he said.
Regarding which districts/cities have the highest target needs, Atin cannot provide exact figures. This is because temporary data of 3.9 million children could still continue to increase.
“Because of this, pukesmas data is assisted by cadres who are included in the micro level planning. However, what is clear is that there are certainly many areas such as Cilacap, Banyumas, Brebes and Semarang City. It could be in the thousands, between 1-2 million children, because the area coverage is large. “Moreover, Semarang, the capital city, has a denser population than other areas,” he said.
Atin hopes that in this simultaneous sub-polio activity the level of participation can be maximum or 100 percent. This is to build the immunity of children aged 0-7 years so that they do not contract diseases that can cause paralysis and attack the nerves.
