Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Central Jakarta Administrative City Government has once again activated the AIDS Concerned Citizens (WPA) to become a means of communication, information and education for the public regarding this disease.
Deputy Mayor of Central Jakarta Administration, Chaidir, while leading the Evaluation of the Activeness of AIDS Concerned Citizens (WPA) in the Pola Room, Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office, Thursday said that the reactivation of WPA was to prevent the spread of AIDS, especially in the Central Jakarta area.
“We require that every sub-district have at least one WPA officer to prevent the spread of AIDS. For vulnerable areas, we hope there will be more than one WPA officer,” said Chaidir.
Chaidir explained that his party would collaborate with local village heads in forming WPA officers in their respective areas.
He also targets that by March the village heads will have completed assignment letters for WPA officers in their respective areas.

Acting Secretary of the Central Jakarta Administrative City AIDS Commission, Asdirwati Ali, explained that according to 2023 data from the Central Jakarta Health Sub-Department (Sudin), of the 69,907 people who underwent tests, 1,296 were positive for HIV/AIDS.
“From this data, only 1,224 people continue to take medication. That is one of the WPA’s tasks to encourage AIDS sufferers who have stopped taking medication to return to taking medication,” said Asdirwati.
Apart from that, Asdirwati also added, WPA officers are the front guard in socializing the dangers of AIDS in the region.
“WPA officers are people who have the potential to carry out outreach regarding the dangers of AIDS in society because they are the ones who work directly and are close to the community,” said Asdirwati.
