FRankfurt remains the Corona hotspot among major German cities. In Hesse, however, a district has replaced the Main metropolis at the top of the Corona ranking. For the Marburg-Biedenkopf district, there are 219 new cases within a week with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants, a little more than for Frankfurt. On Tuesday there were 182. The neighboring district of Gießen has just under 123. The University Clinic Gießen and Marburg as the regional maximum care provider currently cares for 18 Covid-19 patients in intensive care units; Most of them are ventilated, as a spokeswoman for the FAZ announced. 19 more patients are therefore in normal wards. A few weeks ago, the major hospital only cared for a handful of patients with coronavirus. Generally, an increase in the number of infected people only becomes noticeable after a little more than a week at clinics. Seven days ago the incidence in the central Hessian district was 69.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, hospitals throughout Hesse are currently looking after 975 corona patients. That’s 410 or 72 percent more than a week ago. 157 people are subject to ventilation and intensive monitoring, 47 more than last and two and a half times as many as two weeks ago. An increase of 42 percent. 542 free ventilation beds are available in Hessian hospitals, which is almost 50 fewer than seven days ago. The ministry does not say whether there are enough trained staff for all ventilation beds.
Further increase in Frankfurt
The Robert Koch Institute for Hesse reports the second highest daily value of new corona cases since the start of the pandemic in March. Accordingly, the Hessian health authorities recorded 1488 new Covid 19 infections on Tuesday, as can be seen on the website of the federal institute responsible for combating the disease. That is almost 140 more than the day before. The unpleasant record is 1730; however, there had been a data breach the day before, so this value did not only include the confirmed new cases that came in overnight.
The central Corona code, the so-called seven-day incidence, has meanwhile increased again in Frankfurt, according to the RKI. For the metropolis on the Main, there are now a good 216 new cases within a week with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants after 202 before. For Offenbach it is a good 204, which corresponds to stagnation at a high level. The number of infections in Offenbach since March rose overnight from 1113 to 1200.
Next highest warning level almost everywhere
For the Groß-Gerau district, there are now 2078 infected people in the data set since the beginning of the pandemic, after 2006, as reported by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The incidence is just under 148. Wiesbaden comes to 1921 after 1860 and an incidence of 152. All of them, including Darmstadt, remain at the highest warning level according to the state’s escalation concept (see grafic). Only one district, Werra-Meißner, remains below the critical 50 mark at 48. For Mainz, the RKI speaks of 120 new cases under 100,000 inhabitants within a week and for Aschaffenburg of 69.
