New Delhi: The central government left Kerala behind when it sanctioned 50 new medical colleges in the country. Kerala does not have a single one of the newly sanctioned fifty medical colleges. The Kerala government had officially requested the center to sanction a medical college in Wayanad. This demand was also not accepted.

Most of the states in the country had requested the center to sanction new medical colleges. Considering this, the central government sanctioned new medical colleges. The Center has sanctioned 12 new medical colleges in Telangana alone. Five in Andhra Pradesh, three in Assam and Gujarat, two each in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, three in Karnataka, four in Maharashtra, one in Madhya Pradesh, one in Nagaland, two in Odisha, five in Rajasthan, three in Tamil Nadu, two in Bengal and one in UP.

Earlier, the Center had ignored Kerala in the announcement of granting nursing colleges. It also led to great criticism. Currently sanctioned colleges are 30 government colleges and 20 private colleges. Among these are those granted to trusts. The list has not been officially announced by the central government.

The current action of the central government comes amid criticism that the center is not paying attention to Kerala’s health sector. 8195 MBBS seats have also been allotted newly.
