The Supreme Court asked that there be a discussion to resolve the issue. Based on this, both the governments informed the court.
The Supreme Court directed that a discussion be held between the Finance Secretary of Kerala and the Union Finance Minister. Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, who appeared for Kerala, said that he is ready to negotiate after the court’s order. However, the position of the Attorney General, who appeared for the central government, was that he would announce his position in the afternoon. In December, Kerala filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the central government. In the petition, it was pointed out that the central government is unnecessarily interfering in the economic affairs of Kerala. Kerala also argued in the court that due to some amendments of the central government, the promises in the budget cannot be implemented. The state government had said in the petition filed in the court that the current crisis was due to the reduction of the borrowing limit by the Centre, and that Kerala urgently needed Rs 26,000 crore.
