The Azucarera Dos Ríos Agroindustrial Company will not comply with the established harvest, assuring that this has occurred due to a “grass deficit”
The plant located in Palma Soriano, in the province of Santiago de Cuba, has already declared itself the loser of the harvest, due to an endless number of problems that production companies face on a daily basis on the island.
The mill has produced less than 11,000 tons of raw sugar, out of the more than 19,000 tons that it must produce for the current dispute.
Given this, Irayaselis Bandera, from the industry’s Control and Analysis Room, points out that the number of tons of crushed cane amounts to more than 233,000 but that this has been affected by the grass deficit.
In addition, there are other problems that cannot be hidden such as: “lack of fuel, the securing of parts and pieces for the means of transport, in addition there have been breaks in the mill resulting in a meager 50% of the potential standard”.
For his part, engineer Osvaldo Arias Quezada, administrator of the plant, said that the workers are making an effort to “manage solutions to machine breakages, many of which have been in operation for more than half a century, which was revealed in the solution of the boiler problems that has made it possible to stabilize the generation of electricity in the two Soviet turbogenerators with an installed capacity of 4 megawatts (MW) each”.
It is important to mention that Cuba was a sugar power, but communism has finished off the country and after dismantling power plants, now the island is not even capable of producing enough sugar for the consumption of the same people.
