Central banks and purchasing managers have their say

(ABM FN) Coming week will be quite influential in the field of central bankers, including the Fed symposium in Jackson Hole in the US. The corporate agenda remains limited now that the earnings season is almost behind us.

Monday we start the week with a bunch of composite purchasing managers indices from Japan, Europe and the United States. These leading indicators reflect how purchasing managers in various business sectors see the near future.

In addition to these predictive indices, we also provide a view of the future through the eyes of European and Dutch consumers. French and American consumer confidence will follow again on Friday.

Germany will publish an economic growth figure on Tuesday. The United States will do that on Thursday.

The minutes of the last policy meeting of the European Central Bank are also on the agenda for Thursday. The ECB is not expected to taper immediately, but the US Federal Reserve is approaching this moment. The latter was the cause of a decline in the stock markets last week. Rising inflation and the gradual recovery of the labor market are forcing the US central bank to reduce the stimulus measures.

In that regard, Thursday-Friday’s Fed symposium in Jackson Hole is of great importance. The organization of the event, which attracts central bankers and economists from all over the world, announced that the symposium will take place online due to the rising number of corona infections.

Finally, it is not unimportant to mention Thursday’s weekly US aid applications, as well as the US trade balance on Friday.

Company figures

Most of the half-year figures are behind us, although there are still many latecomers in our own country as usual. On Tuesday we expect figures from EVS and Retail Estates. On Wednesday, IBA, Agfa-Gevaert and Smartphoto Group will publish their results. On Thursday we will shift our attention to Picanol, Tessenderlo, Banimmo and MDxHealth. On Friday we close with Balta, VGP, Ter Beke and KBC Ancora.

Abroad, most multinationals have passed. Best Buy will open the books on Tuesday, Salesforce.com will follow on Wednesday and HP Inc. on Thursday.
