Central Bank of Oman Withdraws Omani Rial Notes from Circulation – How to Exchange Your Money

The Central Bank of Oman has announced that it has decided to withdraw some of the current Omani Rial notes from circulation. The withdrawal process will be completed within 360 days from January 2024. Current holders of these notes should exchange them at banks within this period.

Bank notes withdrawn:

1500 bisa, 200 bisa and 100 bisa notes were issued by CBO in November 1995.

50 Omani Rial, 20 Riyal, 10 Riyal and 5 Riyal notes issued in November 2000.

1 riyal commemorative note issued in 2005.

20 riyal commemorative note issued in 2010.

50 Riyal, 10 Riyal and 5 Riyal notes issued in 2011-2012.

1 riyal commemorative note issued in 2015.

50 riyal note issued in 2019.

The said currency notes are no longer legal tender. All banks, financial institutions and retailers operating in Oman have been instructed to accept these banknotes from the public during this period. The Central Bank of Oman said in an online notice that these banknotes will cease to be in circulation and will have no legal value after the expiry of the period specified for exchange.
