direct: The Central Bank of Oman issued government treasury bills for two different terms with a total value of 25.7 million riyals ($66.56 million), out of the total value of the issues offered amounting to 35.7 million riyals.
The Central Bank explained in a statement on its official website that the first issuance is worth 8.2 million riyals, out of a total issued issue worth 18.2 million riyals, for a period of 28 days, starting next Wednesday until next December 6.
According to the Central Bank, the average accepted price was 99.602 riyals per 100 riyals, while the lowest acceptable price was 99.6 riyals per 100 riyals, the average discount rate was 5.19362 percent, and the average return was 5.21441 percent.
The second issue was worth 17.5 million riyals, representing the total issue offered, for a period of 91 days, starting next Wednesday until next February 7.
The average acceptable price for the second issue of bills was 98,669 riyals per 100 riyals, while the lowest acceptable price was 98,665 riyals per 100 riyals, the average discount rate was 5.33805 percent, and the average return was 5.41005 percent.
The statement indicated that the interest rate on repurchase operations with the Central Bank of Oman (repo) on these bills is 6 percent, while the discount rate with the Central Bank on treasury bill facilities is 6.5 percent for the same period.
Treasury bills are a short-term guaranteed financial instrument issued by the Central Bank of Oman on behalf of the Sultanate’s government to provide investment outlets for licensed commercial banks.
It is also one of the short-term government debt instruments, with maturities ranging from 3 months to a year. It is characterized by ease of disposal without exposing the holder to losses, and is sold at a discount.
