Accreditation Canada is an independent, not-for-profit organization that assesses the quality and safety of healthcare services. “All the standards and criteria are categorized: infection prevention and control, governance, risk management, quality improvement, patient safety… Three levels exist: Gold, Platinum and Diamond” , explains the CHM in a press release.
This Monday, the good news fell, the CHM received the highest level of distinction! “The Center Hospitalier de Mouscron began this process of continuous improvement in February 2014. This qualitative approach initiated by management was enthusiastically followed by all staff and doctors. In November 2016, the CHM was the first French-speaking Belgian hospital to receive a visit from a team of five experts. Today, it is the first general hospital in Europe to be Diamond accredited,” adds the CHM.
A pride for the hospital
Long-term work carried out by all the teams. “The commitment of the teams at the Center Hospitalier de Mouscron made all the difference. The Canada accreditation has highlighted the involvement of the staff, their expertise, their proximity and their collaboration in this continuous improvement process”, specifies Grégoire Lefebvre, General Manager of the Center Hospitalier de Mouscron.
Several initiatives were praised by the expert visitors: the constantly evolving computerized patient file, which facilitates the exchange of information between health professionals, the training offer and continuing education of CHM staff, state-of-the-art equipment made available to the teams, the participation of partner patients in numerous improvement projects, the numerous projects in favor of hospitalized patients, etc.
Although the hospital has received this accreditation, it does not intend to stop there. “Even if this Diamond level is a great recognition, the work of continuous improvement of quality and safety is never finished. The CHM is already preparing to face new challenges and projects to develop and meet the needs of the local population,” concludes the CHM.
