Center for asylum seekers in Middelburg evacuated after fire on fourth floor | inland

The Middelburg Asylum Seekers Center (AZC) was evacuated on Saturday morning after a fire broke out. Residents are housed in a sports hall next door. Several people are being treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

It’s all about the azc on the Laurens Stommesweg in the capital of Zeeland. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building. Firefighters attended the scene and are still putting out the fire.

The Red Cross will provide assistance to residents, the security region reports. The smoke given off by the fire does not cause particular discomfort in the area.

The police were also present to assist. They divert traffic, among other things. It is not yet known how the fire started. The police will investigate later if any crimes have been committed.
