The images went around the world. On October 1, Dorothy Hoffner, 104, of Chicago, performed a parachute jump accompanied. A feat which is in the process of being certified to appear in the Guinness World Records since the oldest woman so far to have made such a jump was 103 years old. But, if it is confirmed, the centenarian will no longer be there to see it.
She was found dead on Monday October 9 by staff at the Brookdale Lake View senior community where she lived. She visibly passed away peacefully in her sleep, she who dreamed of taking a hot air balloon ride for her 105th birthday.
A close friend of the old lady said he would follow up on the certification of her record, to make sure it would be awarded posthumously. “She had no intention of breaking the record. And she wasn’t interested in any publicity or anything. She was not doing it for any other reason than to go skydiving,” he said, quoted by theAssociated Press.
Skydive Chicago, which organized the jump, reacted to Dorothy’s passing: “We are deeply saddened by Dorothy’s passing and feel honored to have helped make her world record skydive a reality.”
