The U.S. military command for the Middle East region announced that U.S. and coalition forces shot down at least 28 drones over the Red Seain the early hours of Saturday.
“No US Navy or Coalition vessels were damaged in the attack, and there were also no reports of damage to commercial vessels,” CENTCOM noted.
Earlier, CENTCOM said the military was responding to a large-scale attack on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden that occurred between 4 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. (local time). According to coalition forces, the UAVs by the Houthi rebels were intended to pose “a direct threat to merchant ships, US Navy and coalition ships in the area,” the US military headquarters said in a post X .
British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps also announced that a British Navy ship shot down two attack drones launched by the Yemeni Houthi rebels.
