The confessional structure was declared by 16,397.3 thousand people out of the total resident population and shows that 85.3% of people who declared their religion are Orthodox, down from 86.5% in the previous year 2011 census, as shown by the partial results of the census released Friday by the INS.
In absolute numbers, the number of Orthodox believers in Romania decreased from 16.3 million inhabitants to 13.9 million, according to the INS, or a decrease of 2.3 million.
The total decrease in the population of Romania is 1.1 million inhabitants.
Furthermore, 4.5% of the population declared themselves Roman Catholic (slight decrease from 4.6%), 3% of the Reformed religion (slight decrease from 3.2%).
The percentage of Pentecostal believers has increased, reaching 2.5% of the population, compared to 1.9% a decade ago. In absolute numbers, the number of Pentecostals increased from 362,314 to 404,307.
Weights ranging from 0.4% to 0.8% were recorded by the following religions: Greek Catholic (0.7%), Baptist (0.6%), Seventh-day Adventist and Muslim each 0.4% .
At the census, 0.9% of the total population declared themselves “no religion” or atheist or agnostic.
