CENI installs TFSAs in Greater Lomé – Togo-Presse

Togo is actively preparing for the regional and legislative elections, the process of which was marked, on Thursday, April 13, 2023 in Lomé, by the installation of the various Independent Local Electoral Commissions (CELI) under the municipalities of the prefectures of the Gulf and Agoè-Nyive. Installation made by the parent institution, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), under the leadership of its president, Mr. Dago Yabré, in the presence of the chief of staff of the Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Development of Territories, Mr. Bawoubadi Bakai, the prefect of the Gulf, Kossi Atabuh and other personalities.

The process for this year’s elections is moving forward with the announcement of the electoral census which should start on April 29th. In this dynamic, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) proceeded, yesterday in Lomé, to the installation of Independent Local Electoral Commissions (CELI), coming under Greater Lomé. In total, ten CELIs, including seven from the Gulf prefecture and three from that of Agoè-Nyivé were involved in this ceremony.

According to article 28 of the electoral code, each CELI is made up of eight members, including a magistrate who is its president, an administrator, three members from the parliamentary majority, two from the parliamentary opposition and one from the extra-parliamentary opposition. .

The occasion also made it possible to reveal the distribution of the positions of Vice-President and Rapporteur of each TFSA. At the end of the ceremony, the various TFSAs held their first contact meeting. This work, supervised by the CENI, enabled members of the various CELIs to discuss the modules assigned to them.

In his welcome speech, the prefect of the Gulf, Mr. Kossi Atabuh, congratulated the members of the CELI, before noting the importance of the electoral deadlines. He wanted all the players to get involved, for the success of the process.

For his part, the oldest president of the CELI, Mr. Atchou Adjeoda, testified all the gratitude of his peers to the CENI, for the confidence it has placed in them and that they assume. He recalled their attachment to scrupulous respect for the constitution, the electoral code and the various laws. To which are added the attachment to the values ​​of abnegation, self-sacrifice, the will to do well, integrity, team spirit and good collaboration, punctuality, diligence, friendliness and moral probity.

In her speech for the occasion, the president of the CENI Finance sub-committee, Ms. Agnélé Christine Messanh-Atoemne, explained that the purpose of the meeting is to make ample acquaintances and exchanges with the TFSAs. According to her, the CELIs represent the CENI at the local level and their role is to ensure that the elections take place in a calm, peaceful and worry-free atmosphere. These regional elections, she said, will help complete the decentralization process.
