XALIMANEWS:
The Minister of the Environment has been firm today on the declassification of the Mbao forest to allocate its land to private or private individuals. But Abdou Karim Sall was open to the erection of a cemetery in the said forest. He even announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding of the town hall of Pikine which formulated the request.

“The need for a cemetery is a social demand of the Pikine department. And the state must meet this demand. This is the reason why we are in the process of seeing with the technicians respecting the forms and all that is available to take for the respect of the environment so that we can dispose of the cemeteries inside the classified forest. as there are in developed countries Canada, the United States, France where there are indeed cemeteries in forests. And that is a decision that was taken and we are going to sign a memorandum of understanding with the town hall, ”indicated the minister who was visiting the said forest.

He indicates that the memorandum of understanding will be made public so that the populations can know that the measures have been taken to allow the preservation of the integrity of the entire classified forest and the respect of the forest with regard to the forest. respect for biodiversity.

As a reminder, the Minister of the Environment had also declared, during the same outing, that “‘The State does not plan to downgrade a single square millimeter of the classified forest of Mbao for private individuals and even less for industrialists or developers. . The State is in a logic of reconstituting forests and not destroying them. I repeat here, there will not be a single square millimeter downgraded for any needs whatsoever, ”said Abdou Karim Sall.

The latter, who was on a site visit, believes that this forest located in the heart of the Pikine department and housed in the heart of the Dakar region is not to be razed, but rather to be protected.
