In an expected Game 2, the Celtics confirmed their solidity against Hawks unable to compete. Boston takes off at home, 119-106, and now goes to Georgia with the goal of ending the series.
For the little homemade boxscore, it’s here.
Want to say that the scenario of the match was as predictable as possible.
Atlanta started its meeting perfectly, with an impeccable De’Andre Hunter in attack and an imperial Clint Capela behind. In just a few minutes, the Hawks already have more three points than in Game 1. In the lead, Boston is still in the locker room and needs time to warm up. But things turn quickly. From the second half of the first quarter, the Celtics made up for their ten-point deficit in the snap of a finger with Derrick White and Malcolm Brogdon in charge.
The C’s end up in front with the Piafs who have barely scored anything in the last five minutes. We can feel the problems coming for Quin Snyder’s players. And it does not miss. Because even if Onyeka Okongwu starts the second quarter with a monstrous counter on Derrick White, the Falcons’ defense is not flying very high tonight (lol). We are witnessing several scenes where after a brick from Atlanta, the Celtics find themselves in three against one in the opposing camp. In other words, the punishment is instantaneous. Boston leads 61-49 at halftime. We don’t know it yet, but the match is already over.

In the second half, the Celtics manage their lead without pressure, still with this comfortable mattress of ten/dozen points. Derrick White is in the oven and in the mill. As much able to defend as a leader on Trae Young (9/22 in shooting including 2/8 at 3-pts) as to exploit the many defensive flaws of his evening opponents to afford a fabulous line of stats: 26 points at 11/16 shooting, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 interception and 3 blocks.
In parallel, Jayson Tatum still lays a great game while giving the impression of not forcing with 29 points and 10 rebounds including a giga dunk in the last minutes. On the other side, the Hawks pay their defensive largesse against such a lethal attack. Trae Young, supposed to set the fire on the other side, is on AC in his shooting choices, passing while being clumsy tonight. Honorable mentions to Dejounte Murray and De’Andre Hunter in attack who were the two real threats.
Derrick White is too much, what a game. What a start to the series. Which season.

Atlanta leaves Boston empty-handed as expected. Now, we will have to be sure at home so as not to be violently swept away. See you in the night from Friday to Saturday for Game 3 of this one-sided series… for the moment.
