Celtic won today their fourth consecutive Scottish Cup title and 40th in their history by beating Hearts of Midlothian in the final on penalties (4-3) after finishing the game with 2-2 and overtime with 3-3 . With this success, the Glasgow team achieved their fourth consecutive triplet, an unprecedented success in their country, after previously winning the Premier League and the League Cup.

The questioned Neil Lennon is compensated
The team led by the Northern Irishman Neil Lennon, questioned due to the poor record in the Premier, suffered despite going ahead with a 2-0 in the first half hour of the game thanks to goals from Ryan Christie and Frenchman Odsonne Edouard. A marker that glimpsed an easy triumph.
In contrast, Hearts, leaders of the Second Division after relegation last season, went up after the break and forced extra time. He saw the light early in the second half with a goal from Northern Irishman Liam Boyce and then equalized through Stephen Kingsley.
Two more goals in extra time
Even in overtime Celtic again took the lead through Leigh Griffiths, but England’s Josh Ginnelly responded to send the final, played at Hampden Park, to penalties.
In the shootout, although Christie was the first to fail, Celtic ended up being more accurate, as Kingsley and Craig Wighton missed for Hearts, who could not with the Northern Irish goalkeeper Conor Hazard. The Norwegian Kristoffer Ajer did not miss the option to put the final 4-3.
