It goes without saying that Celtic need to sign a left-back soon. Come the January transfer window, many assumed the Hoops were going to strengthen at the position, but they have yet to do so. It remains to be seen if they can achieve anything on deadline day.
Earlier in the window, a move for Estoril’s Diego Araujo appeared on the cards. But he finally got nowhere.
FC Twente’s Gijs Smal was also rumored to be a potential target. But, once again, nothing concrete has come out of the rumors.
Now, it appears a Premier League left-back was on the Hoops’ radar, but they received no encouragement. As reported daily mail (through Daily entry), Celtic’s attempts to sign Hugo Bueno from Wolves have been thwarted and Levine Kurzawa is now being looked after.
Bueno came through the Wolves youth ranks and has made almost 40 appearances for them at senior level. He has also represented Spain at youth international level.
So, Bueno is undoubtedly a highly valued talent. If Celtic manage to sign him, it must be considered a coup by the Hoops. It didn’t happen and now they had to focus their attention elsewhere.
With so little time left in the winter transfer window, an unlikely move for Lewin Kurzawa is a possibility for Celtic. The PSG left-back has not played much for the French giants in recent times and could be on the move. A short-term move to Glasgow would help him get his career back on track. It remains to be seen if anything materializes soon.
