Celtic Fans’ Season Tickets Suspended for Pro-Palestine Flags: Green Brigades Punished for Support in Gaza Conflict

(ANSA) – GLASGOW, NOV 3 – Glasgow Celtic suspended the season tickets of some 250 club fans who displayed flags in support of Palestine against the massacre carried out by the Israeli army against the population of Gaza, in retaliation for the attack carried out by the Hamas insurgent group on October 7.
The measure came into effect from the match that Celtic won at home on November 1 against St. Mirren and affected, among others, the members of the so-called “Green Brigades”, a historic sector of the Scottish team’s bias.
The reasons for this decision provided by the club point to “an increasingly serious escalation of unacceptable behavior that does not comply with the rules”, although many agree that it represents punishment for the position taken by the majority of Celtic fans regarding of the conflict in the Middle East.
The “Green Brigades” were one of the first to express their rejection of the Israeli army’s advance on the civilian population of Gaza (with a death toll of about 9,000, half of them children) and they did so with flags that flew in its stadium with legends like “Free Palestine” and “Victory of the Resistance”.
