Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It turns out that Indonesian people need to be vigilant if they spend most of their time on gadgets. cell phone inventor Martin Cooper provides special advice for those who are addicted to gadgets.
Moreover, in the latest report from research firm data.ai titled “State of Mobile 2023”, Indonesians occupy the first position as cellphone ‘addicts’. This means that Indonesia is the highest user who spends more than 5 hours every day testing mobile devices (HP and tablets).
Indonesian people spend an average of 5.7 hours per day on cellular networks throughout 2022. This figure has increased sharply from the average duration of playing cellphones of 5.4 hours per day in 2021.
Cooper doesn’t want people to spend their time playing gadgets. He asked people to seek another life not with his cell phone.
Cooper made the suggestion while appearing on the BBC Breakfast program. He said he was shocked when he heard that the presenter spends five hours per day on his cell phone.
“Really? Is it true that you spend five hours a day? Seek life!” said Cooper, who is currently 92 years old Phone ArenaSunday (16/7/2023).
Cooper admits that he doesn’t use gadgets too often in his daily life. That is only about 5% of the time.
Indonesians’ addiction to cellphones has increased sharply since the pandemic period in 2020. The data.ai report shows that Indonesian cellphone testers penetrate 5 hours a day for the first time.
Compared to 2019, the figure is only 3.9 hours a day or 1.1 hours shorter. Not only Indonesia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and South Korea exceeded 5 hours per day on mobile throughout 2022.
For information, Cooper created the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X cell phone in 1973. At that time he thought of creating a device that could be taken anywhere.
Because 50 years ago, connected cell phones in cars were very popular. Cooper wanted a cell phone that was small enough to fit in a pocket, but large enough to fit between ear and mouth. Everyone should also have their own phone number.
It turns out that Cooper’s idea was welcomed by Motorola. The company then invested up to millions of dollars to develop a mobile phone that weighs 2.5 pounds and is 10 inches long.
But don’t expect the appearance of the first cellphone to be the same as the current cellphone. The battery only lasts 25 minutes and it takes 10 hours to charge.
The price is also quite expensive. Released 10 years after being developed, DynaTAC retails for US$ 3,995.
Message Elon Musk
The same thing was expressed by Elon Musk, billionaire and owner of Twitter, through his Twitter account. He said people should appear to be spending less time on social media.
“Maybe we should spend less time on social media…?”, Musk tweeted in response to a Twitter user.
The tweet from the Twitter user to which Musk replied refers to a study from the Survey Center’s 2021 survey. The research questions the average American citizen who claims his social circle has shrunk in the last three decades, from 1990 to 2021. In addition, there is a downward trend in friendships among men.
Elon Musk responded to this exposure with a kind of invitation for people not to spend time on social media. Ironically, he is the CEO of one of the biggest social media. In addition, Musk himself is very active in tweeting.
In November 2022, there was an analyst who researched Elon Musk’s habits in using social media. According to the report, quoted from Business Insider, Musk uploaded an average of one tweet per hour in the three weeks after officially buying Twitter.
However, the desire to stop in cyberspace has been expressed by Musk since last year. While attending the “Full Send” podcast, he said he wanted to kick the bad habit of checking his phone in the morning.
He wanted to be able to exercise and then saw his cellphone. “I [perlu] exercise and be in better shape,” Musk said.
“So, I’ll switch from looking directly at my phone as soon as I wake up to working out for at least 20 minutes – then I’ll look at my phone,” he said at the time.
