Céline Naef and Leandro Riedi are in the final of the Hopman Cup in Nice. After Denmark and Holger Rune, the Swiss duo beat France 2-1 in this revived mixed competition.
Naef certainly lost against Alizé Cornet (WTA 68) 1-6 6-3 10-8 after winning the first set, but Riedi then turned the tide against Richard Gasquet (ATP 49) by winning 3-6 6-3 10-8. In the decisive double, Naef and Riediont got the better of Cornet/Gasquet 6-4 7-5. They got their first match point after 73 minutes, as the French missed two balls to level at 5-3.
Naef and Riedi could thus follow in the footsteps of Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic, who had won the last editions in 2018 and 2019 before the temporary cessation of this mixed competition rich in traditions.
Their opponents in the final will not be known until Saturday. It will either be Spain with Carlos Alcaraz and Paula Badosa, or Croatia or Belgium.
