Celine Dion’s reaction was caused by Donald Trump and the reason was the former US president’s choice to play an excerpt from the song “My Heart Will Go On” at his campaign rally in Bozeman, Montana on Friday 9/8.
In a statement to X, the popular artist said she had not given her approval for the song to be used. “Really, he found this song” he said among other things.
Canadian artist Neil Young has also previously objected to Donald Trump’s use of his songs, while in 2020 the Rolling Stones threatened him with legal action after playing You Can’t Always Get What You Want at a political rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Today, Celine Dion’s team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc, became aware of the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance and image of Celine Dion singing My Heart Will Go On in Donald Trump campaign rally in Montana. Under no circumstances is this use permitted and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. Did he really find this song?’ the announcement says.

Trump has made no comment so far.
My Heart Will Go On is one of five Grammy Award winner Dion’s best known songs.
The Oscar-winning ballad was featured on the soundtrack to the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the two lovers who meet on the doomed ship’s maiden voyage in 1912.
