Celia Muñoz, the winner of the Spanish Talent program from 2021 and a finalist from the America’s got Talent competition, will arrive in Finland for the Helsinki Ooperakesä festival.

The opera singer has earned her reputation with her special skill. In his performances, he combines ventriloquism, opera singing and magic.

The multitalented singer who has gained worldwide fame is excited to arrive in Finland, as he has not visited the country since graduating from the Sibelius Academy.

– I started at the Sibelius Academy as an exchange student, after which I got into the master’s program, the singer says.

– I’m really excited about Finland, because I have a lot of friends there. I haven’t been able to visit the country for a long time either.

The ability to ventriloquist also came as a surprise to the singer herself. He says that by chance he came across a video of the previous winner of AGT on his phone.

– It was a surprise even to myself! I saw a video on YouTube and wondered what I was watching.

Muñoz says that he started the experiment for his own pleasure over a glass of wine.

– Ventriloquism seemed like fun, and it was a night when I had a glass of wine and just wanted to have fun and try ventriloquism. I found out that I was good at it.

The belly singer says that he felt that it was fate that made him try and find his gift.

From Las Vegas to Helsinki

It was during the pandemic when Muñoz decided to participate in the Spanish Talent program. The other gigs were mostly cancelled, so there was enough time to participate.

– My brother, Miguel Muñoz, is an award-winning magician and during the pandemic we practiced together via video. Then I participated in a talent program.

What made the situation special was that the performer had not performed with his “new” talents in front of the audience before the talent show.

– The first appearance was on the Spain’s got Talent program.

Much to his surprise, the belly singer won the entire competition.

– I didn’t expect a win at all and it came as a big surprise. I wanted to go and just make a video and I thought this was kind of like a hobby.

The woman’s talent was also noticed outside of Europe and the victory of the competition was also taken into account in the United States.

– I posted a video of my victory on Instagram and after the night I was asked if I would like to apply to AGT.

Muñoz’s journey continued until the very end in one of the world’s most famous talent shows. He was one of the finalists of the competition.

Audiences are different in different parts of the world

Success in talent shows brought gig invitations to the big stages of the US and Europe. The star says that he has performed in, for example, Las Vegas and the famous Magic Castle in Los Angeles.

Compared to the European and Spanish audiences, the viewers in the United States are in the performer’s mind.

– The American audience is really enthusiastic, so to speak “over the top”. It is the best audience for a performer and it boosts self-esteem tremendously.

However, the performer who started with opera says that the classical singing audience is different from the show audience all over the world.

– Ventriloquism is purely entertainment and its audience will have fun. Opera, on the other hand, has its own “rules” and usually you don’t react in the middle of the aria, for example, and the audience then reacts afterwards.

– In the entertainment world, audience reaction is more permissible and its starting points are different.

Although the performer likes belly dancing and variety shows, he says that he misses working with an orchestra from time to time. In the future, the world star would like to combine an orchestra with his performance. In addition, singing with sound reproduction brings its own difference between art forms.

Muñoz feels that he has gotten many people excited about ventriloquism or singing.

– At least in Spain, the art form in question died during the 1990s. I’m not sure if I’ve gotten people excited, but at least now it’s being talked about again and many have started it at least as a hobby.

However, the situation is different in different continents and continents, and Muñoz says that, for example, in the United States and Britain, the art form is popular. The star cannot tell the situation in Finland yet.

Compared to the stages in Finland and the world, the singer is looking forward to arriving at the intimate Aleksanteri Theatre. According to him, his performance comes into its own especially on a smaller stage where the audience is close.

– In big theaters, you have to show the images on screens, and it’s the same as, for example, in magic, it works better in an intimate space, the star says.
