FINEART OSLO (Nettavisen): One of Norway’s most important and famous artists, Odd Nerdrum, had on Thursday night the opening of his first major separate exhibition since 1998. In just under two hours, 1,500 people had stopped by – but the artist himself did not show up.
On the other hand, his son, Öde Nerdrum, did, who told about the background for his father not attending the opening of “You see we are blind”, as the exhibition is called.
– I’m afraid my father has got cold feet. I can recognize it. People are very scary. From a distance, Öde Nerdrum explains to Nettavisen.

Christian Ringnes spoke before the opening of the exhibition, the speaker was full of energy and had several good stories in store about the absent artist.
– I have been very fond of Nerdrum’s paintings since I was a young gentleman, Ringnes told Nettavisen.
As mentioned earlier, there are more than 60 paintings in the exhibition, of which all but four are for sale, as they are in Nerdrum’s private ownership. One of those who considered buying one or more of the works was Ringnes, but he was very secretive about which one.
– I can not say what is my favorite here, because I hope to buy it myself, says Ringnes who already has more Nerdrum paintings than he has control over.
Fineart informs Nettavisen that the cheapest painting in the exhibition costs NOK 350,000, and the most expensive NOK 6 million.

Crowded
It is the gallery Fineart that has the pleasure of showing more than 60 of Nerdrum’s paintings. And more than 1500 art lovers showed up to see the paintings.
– It is absolutely overwhelming, this is exactly what Odd Nerdrum deserves. You are always a little excited about whether people will show up, but in this case we were pretty sure that it would go well, says Rolf Stavnem, general manager of Fineart.
What do you think about the fact that the artist himself did not meet?
– I wish Odd himself had the pleasure of attending the opening today. But it was unfortunately not entirely unexpected, I know what Odd thinks about such events. I have great understanding and respect for that, Stavnem concludes.
